Many procedures done in plastic surgery can provide permanent results and other procedures can last for years, but there are several tips to maintaining the results for procedures that are not necessarily permanent. Since plastic surgery is an investment in your health, happiness, and confidence we want to ensure that you get the most satisfaction possible.
1) Most importantly follow any direction from your surgeon.
After your procedure or procedures, follow any instruction from your team of doctors and nurses. They are familiar with your medical history and with the details of your procedure and know the best advice to make sure you heal comfortably and to ensure a satisfying result!
2) Eat healthy and exercise.
Maintaining a healthy diet will provide your body the nourishment it needs in order to heal properly. Once healed, a balanced diet will ensure that your results are maintained; drink water and eat fruits and vegetables to make sure you get all your nutrients. This will inhibit weight gain. Gaining weight is one of the easiest ways to reverse the procedure as skin stretches and fat cells grow. Once it is safe to do so after your surgery, regular exercise will help maintain your weight and results. It will also make you feel strong and improve your general health!
3) Take care of your skin.
For procedures, such as face lifts and neck lifts, skin protection is essential to maintaining results. Applying a sunscreen with at least 30 SPF to your face daily will prevent sun damage which can cause skin cancer, wrinkles, and sagging. Remember that the sun can do damage even in the winter so wear sunscreen year round! Smoking can also have harmful effects on the skin and advance the aging process making you appear older than you are; avoid smoking to increase your skin and overall health. Lastly, skin care is about what you put in your body as well as what you put on your skin. Drinking lots of water and eating clean, healthy food will also improve the appearance of your skin and ensure that your results from surgery last.
4) Pay attention to your surgical site.
Though no procedures can eliminate the aging process entirely, make sure that you pay special attention to any places where you have had a procedure. If you notice any persistent pain or irregularities at your surgical site after you have been cleared, contact your surgeon to make sure there are no post-operative complications. Furthermore, there are other non-surgical options that can elongate and enhance your results as time passes such as Botox, laser skin and facial treatments.
